Ports of Call of Duty Black Ops and Black Ops 2 have been officially launched on PlayStation consoles, including PS5, with a limited-time discount. This development is confirmed by insider sources and marks a notable expansion of these titles onto modern hardware, potentially revitalizing interest in the series among PlayStation users.
The ports were first reported by Insider Gaming and are now available on the PlayStation Store. The release includes both the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 titles, optimized for PlayStation 5, with enhanced graphics and performance features. The launch coincides with a special promotional discount that reduces the price for a limited period, making these classic titles more accessible to new and returning players.
Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that the ports are official, developed or approved by Activision, the publisher of the Call of Duty franchise. The exact release date was not initially announced but was confirmed to be live as of March 2024. The titles are available digitally, with no current reports of physical editions.
Potential Impact on Call of Duty Player Base
This release could significantly broaden the accessibility of the Black Ops series, especially for PlayStation users who missed the original launches or want to experience the titles on newer hardware. The inclusion of Black Ops 2, a highly popular installment, may boost sales and rekindle interest in the franchise ahead of upcoming Call of Duty releases. Additionally, the limited-time discount could drive substantial digital sales, benefiting Activision and its partner platforms.

Historical Releases and Platform Expansions for Black Ops Series
The Call of Duty Black Ops series originally launched on multiple platforms, including Xbox and PC, with Black Ops 1 released in 2010 and Black Ops 2 in 2012. Both titles have been re-released on various formats, but ports for PlayStation consoles, especially PS5, have been limited until now. Recent years have seen a trend of remastering classic titles for modern hardware, often accompanied by discounts and promotional offers.
This launch follows similar recent porting efforts for other popular titles, reflecting a broader industry move to capitalize on nostalgic titles and expand their reach on new consoles. The timing suggests a strategic move by Activision to maintain engagement with the Call of Duty franchise amid upcoming game releases and seasonal sales events.
